About 2 weeks ago I blogged about hair transplant, explaining what it is, how the procedure’s like and so on. As with other methods of treatments or hair restoration products, hair transplant is not without side effects. Hence, I’ve decided to highlight some of the side effects you should be aware of before you decide to go ahead with such operations.
Don’t be mistaken, I am absolutely not against this procedure, I just think it is always wise to understand both the pros and cons of any procedures before making a decision.
Loss of Hair
It has been noted that hair fall will accelerate due to scalp shock after the hair transplant operation. Usually, the hair that falls off will be those weak at the roots. There is no need to worry as not all your hair will fall off and medication can curb this problem.
Bleeding
Bleeding is likely to occur but is known to go away after awhile. If bleeding persists, you will need to consult your physician to take extra measures to control the bleeding.
Swelling
Almost everyone will experience swelling and some aching after a hair transplant operation. Swelling can be noticed particularly in the area around the forehead and around the eyes. This usually lasts only for a few days. The worse thing that can happen to you when swelling occurs is looking like you have a black eye.
Numbness
Numbness can be experienced due to the reduced circulation of the blood in the capillaries as the scalp has undergone lesions. It is only a temprorary effect as the scalp is just healing itself.
Scabbing/Itching
Itching is very common and in some cases it is extremely severe. The itching results as scabs start to form. These scabs will naturally fall off in ten days or so. Apply some soothing lotion or moisturizer to relieve the itch.
Scarring
Scarring may occur on the graft sites. However, most scars are small and are covered up by growing hair. Do not however, if that the procedure is not done properly, incisions made may create large unsightly scars which cannot be covered up by your hair. Do make sure your physician is a qualified and skilled doctor before undergoing surgery with him.
Infection
Infection, although rare, has been known to happen. This can be cured with a prescription of antibiotics. I hope this post has been useful for those who are seriously considering hair transplant surgery.
For those who have already undergone this procedure and have experienced effects I have not mentioned, do leave a comment so that others can learn from it.
