There have been users who have tried grafting hair into scars but do not seem to notice any growth. According to Dr. Rassman, grafts in scars usually do not grow as well as those on normal healthy tissue.

The patient noticed that the hairs implanted into the scars have stopped growing, are bent and are just ’sitting there’. The skin around the area has also been scabbing. You can read more about his situation below.

I am not an expert in this area but if anyone would like to share more about this topic please feel free to leave comments!

Just found this article saying that besides cancer and heart diseases, smoking may also very well cause hair loss!

Smoking has been known to promote the level of DHT (dihydrotestosterone) in the hair follicles and we all know that high levels of DHT is one of the causes of hair loss.

According to studies, DHT levels in randomly sampled smokers were 13% higher in smokers than in non smokers.

The toxins in the smoke can also harm hair follicles and damage hormones.

A team recently studied a group of 740 men in Taiwan, aged 40 to 91 years and found a greater rate of hair loss among the smokers, a risk that grew with increasing smoking.

Further research reveals however, that hair loss by anti-depressants are actually rather rare. The problem is prevalent though, and the medications known to have this side effect generally are SSRI antidepressants. This includes Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.

At times like these, both patient and doctor needs to determine which is a bigger concern. Stopping the medication may be dangerous for the mental well being of the patient but if self image is or bigger importance, then the patient may need to weigh out the odds with his or her doctor.

Has anyone experienced the hair thinning side effect from anti-depressants yet? Perhaps you would like to share about the experience and what you understand from the problem so others can learn from it? Just a suggestion. (:

This really shows how important it is for consumers to educate themselves before making a decision on procedures like hair transplants.

Just a brief summary on what happened to 1 of the patients. This man in his 30s has had hair transplant work for over 10 years. Apparently each time the transplant would always leave him worse off. The doctors had also been taking donor strips from the back of his head at different areas, leaving the areas stretched.

This man has spent tens of thousands of dollars, even getting a brow lift to raise his hairline, which eventually left him scarred in the hairline area. Yet he is now massively scarred in the back of his head. It is reported that he did try the doctors again after each failed procedure only to have his calls unreturned.

You can read more about this story in my related links below.

Please take heed everyone. I have mentioned this many many times but the dangers are very real. Please do be very careful what doctors you engage and also do your research before deciding on these procedures.

Newsflash! There have been reports all over the Internet saying that a hair loss gene has been discovered. This discovery may in fact lead to a cure to hair loss!

According to reports, it has been revealed that the Sox21 gene in mice has a part to play in hair loss in mice. Researchers blocked the activity of the Sox21 gene in mice and discovered that the mice started losing hair around 2 weeks after birth. Within a week, they had lost all their hair.

According to Professor Yumiko Saga at the National Institute of Genetics in Tokyo, “It is entirely possible that the gene is also a cause of thinning hair among humans”.

However a lot more research needs to be before a connection can be scientifically established and even more needs to be done to find a cure for hair loss.

To find out more about the new discovery, do look at the related links. They are a few articles I’ve found about the issue.

Has anyone heard of this herb called Saw Palmetto? I was just surfing the Internet and I came across this article which claims that saw palmetto is 3 times stronger than Rogaine.

Apparently saw palmetto clears the hair follicles, acting much like the active ingredient in Rogaine and decreases the residues of DHT in the scalp.

I’ve mentioned how rosemary is good for the hair. Rosemary is said to open the hair follicles allowing them to remain clear and free form bacteria.

Try this, take 3/4 tsp. rosemary essential oil and 3/4 tsp. jojoba oil. Mix them all in a blender until the texture becomes smooth. Apply the mixture to the scalp and allow it to remain for several hours.

Anyone brave enough to try this? Let me know if it works!

For those who are thinking of undergoing treatment for hair loss, there are certain hidden ‘dangers’ or issues that you should be aware of before you proceed with any hair loss treatment.

Although I am not certain how true and to what extent these issues and ‘dangers’ are, I would still like to highlight them here.

As we know, the more popular hair loss solutions include hair transplant surgery and prescription drugs.

1. Hair Transplant Surgery

Hair transplant is known to be a rather expensive procedure to restore one’s hair. Although most advertisements promise great results, a person who is considering this method of treatment should always make it a point to consult many specialists and choose the best.

Like any kind of surgery, do not try to take the cheap and easy way out or risk facing dire consequences!

Be wary of inexperienced or unqualified surgeons. Some of the dangers involve permenant scarring, trauma or shock to your scalp and follicles and the risk of losing all your healthy hair due to shock caused by surgery.

This will inevidently cause more stress and escalate the loss in self confidence.

2. Prescription drugs

As highlighted before, Propecia is the most popular prescription drug used to restore hair. However, as I have highlighted before, once you take Propecia to restore your hair, you will need to take it all your life to keep your hair.

Once you stop treatment, all the gained hair will be lost within 6 months. If you feel that you are unable to financially sustain this method of treatment in the long run, you should consider other options.

Other side effects for men include impotency and a decreased libido.

Always be aware of the consequences or side effects of any method of treatment you are about to undergo. Be sure to consult a trusted doctor and always get a second or third opinion.
